Sri Kalahasti temple is the temple located in the state of Andhra Pradesh and is the most popular Shiva temple of South India. The Sri Kalahasti temple is situated at the distance of 36 kilometers from Tirupati and is also famous for the Vayu deva temple. This is the only temple in India that is dedicated to the God of Wind. The temple has been constructed in the 12th century by the Chola king that is Rajendra Chola.
The temple is west facing with the adjoining hill on the banks of river Swarnamukhi. At some times the hill serves as the wall of the temple. To the north of the temple there is the Durgambika hill, to the south there is Kannappar hill and in the east there is Kumaraswamy hill. The present structure of the temple is made on the foundation of Cholas of the 10th century.
