Mudumalai National Park is one of the most critical ecological systems in the country, with Bandipur National Park and Nagarhole National Park to the north and the Wayand wildlife sanctuary to the south. Trees like teak, sandalwood, mahogany and also bamboo grow uninhibited and tall, almost cutting the sunlight even when the sun is high in the sky. So it is advisable to reach the reserve during noon or just after noon and also carry alternate sources of light with you.
1. Jungle Safari – The Mudumalai National Park van safari is the most popular activity there. The buses take you to the core area of the national park where you can follow the wildlife trail. Barking deer, python and macaque are common sights, but you can also spot tigers, panthers and leopards in shades or around ponds.

4. Trekking in the Mudumalai forest – Officials of the forest department don’t allow anyone to walk or roam around, inside the core forest area. However, plenty of guided trekking trails and mountain hiking activities are available through the lodgings and travel planners nearby. 5. Bird watching – Apart from the tall, dark forests and abundance of wildlife, Mudumalai also boasts of abundant birdlife. The bus safari timings are between 7 AM and 10 AM and then again in the evening from 3 PM to 6 PM. Each ride is for one hour and the tickets can be purchased from the reception at Theppakadu. There is no option for online booking or reservation for Safari. The tickets at the counter are available for ₹340 per person. Mudumalai National Park jeep safari costs ₹4,200 per trip. Many private jeep operators also offer their services, but they take you only to the “buffer area” of the park. Most animals can’t be seen there.

Dating back to 19th century, St. Stephan Church is a place to visit in Ooty for its architectural beauty and religious importance. Although comparatively simpler, this church has beautiful interiors. The painted glass windows along with the painting of Last Supper is especially captivating. It is said that the timber used in the construction of thsi chruch was brought from Srinangapatna as well as from the Tipu Sultan Palace.

Stone House in Ooty is famous for being the first bungalow in the town. Also known as Kal Bangala in Tamil, it was built in the early 19th century by John Sullivan, an Englishman, the first Collector of Udhagamandalam and the founder of the British Settlement in Ooty.
The land where the stone house stands once belonged to the Toda Tribe of Udhagamandalam. When the East India Company reached Ooty back in the late 18th century, they were introduced to the Toda Tribe. Later in the 19th century, with an intention of establishing the British Settlement, John Sullivan bought a piece of land from one of the Toda families and built the house. Ever since the house has been a famous landmark and a site of historical heritage in Ooty.
The Stone House in Ooty retains most of its picturesque charm. It is a well-maintained property, almost two centuries old now and yet stands strong. The building has sort of launched the modernization of the town because, since its creation, several more developments like more houses, roads etc. were built on the hill station. The population increased and marked the beginning of a new era in Udhagamandalam. Currently, the Principal of the Government Arts College resides in the house. The first bungalow which was built in Ooty is the Stone House. It was constructed by John Sullivan in 1822.
