Matrimandir Auroville meditation Centre

The townhouses the Matrimandir (Temple of the Divine Mother) at the center. It is a one hundred foot high spherical structure with the lotus bud shaped foundation. Its outer walls are decorated with gold-encased discs. The structure has an exquisite meditation chamber of white marble floor and walls. Daylight entering from the roof is directed to a huge crystal globe that illuminates mysteriously, focusing on meditation. In addition, it has around twelve gardens, lakes and an amphitheater.
The Visitors Center provides a pass to the Matrimandir. There is also an art gallery at the Visitors Center and a video theatre (Timings: 10.30 AM, 11.30 AM, 2.30 PM, 3 PM & 3.30 PM). There is also a cafeteria and some boutiques offering shopping opportunities.

Manakula Vinayagar Temple was in existence before the French came and settled in Pondicherry, and the idol of Lord Ganesha is locally known as Vellakkaran Pillai. The French Jesuits and missionaries tried to demolish the temple several times, but the local population saved the temple every time.
Facing the east near the Bay of Bengal, the temple was known as Bhavaneshar Ganapathy, now called Manakula Vinayagar. In Tamil, Manal means sand, and Kulam means pond near the sea. The temple is spread over about 8000 sq. ft with an outer mandapam, raja gopuram and outer enclosure. Measuring 18 feet in height, the gold plated kodikambam is a spectacular highlight of this temple. The outside wall of the temple depicts various forms of the Ganesha with its timelines and locations. A golden vimana enhances the rich architectural beauty of the shrine.
Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Temple
अरुल्मिगु मनाकुला विनयगर मंदिर
The idol of the Lord Ganesha stands here beautifully, facing towards the east, along with his consorts Buddhi and Siddhi. The idol rests on a golden chariot. The use of teak wood and gold racks gives an exquisite look to the chariot. Around 7.5 kilograms of gold was used in the making of the chariot. Every year during Dussehra, this chariot is carried out for procession. The temple also features a dancing Ganesh called Nathan Ganapathy.
A saint named Thollaikkathu Siddhar attained Samadhi in the premises of this temple 300 years ago.
Ganesh Chaturthi is very devotionally celebrated in the temple with special pujas. Brahmotsavam in the month of Avani (August/September), ten-day Pavithra Utsavam, monthly Chaturthi days (the fourth day from the New moon or full moon day) are other festivals celebrated in the temple.
